INTRODUCTION Here is one of the numerous games for 3DO made by ALG. DW is really the sequel to Crime Patrol. With this in mind one would expect to have a better game then its predessor. Well you will have to read my review to find out if it did or not. In case you didn't already know Drug Wars is a FMV gun game which can use the mouse and/ or gun. I use the mouse but do not own the gun, so the control will be based on the mouse's performance. GRAPHICS-5/10 I have seen some grainy FMV in my day but some of the FMV in some parts of DW is just plain unseeable, if that is a word. But you can't see some of the guys who shoot you what so ever because they are either a blur or to grainy that you dont even notice them. Some of the FMV is done well but not really even close to how overall the graphics in CP were. CP had better graphics and came before which is really sad. ALG really should have put in a lot more time to smooth it out. SOUNDS-5/10 Most of the in game music is really muffled and hard to hear. The voices are just plain laughable. Most of them were taken from CP so if you hated the screams in that one you are in for the same ride. Certainly doesn't get any originallity points from me. Also most of the voices are just horribly done and sound fake. They really crapped up this department of the game. CONTROL-7/10 w/mouse 4/10 w/cont. It really really helps to have a mouse for this game because if you dont you are in for a lot of hard gameplay that is hard enough with the mouse! The controller is just way to hard because you have to cover such a large area and be precise that it is just ludacris that they expect you to actually be able to shoot some of the guys. The mouse is much easier to do diagonals and be precise which is good, and you can get from one end of the screen to the other, very quickly. One thing that is a drawback for the mouse though, is sometimes it isn't very responsive when you click the button. I am not talking about always, but it seems about 1/30 clicks it doesn't shoot. Control overall sucks if you dont have the mouse or gun I am guessing. GAMEPLAY-6/10 This is what made Crime Patrol so fun and addicting, but they did seem to throw some of the levels together and not think of the player. For instance the score meter can be gone over and reset to 0 after only going through a few levels! Thats what I liked about CP, that each time you could challenge yourself to beat your old high score. Also DG seems a lot cheesier than CP in a lot of ways(and you thought CP was bad!). But it is fun to shoot bad guys, however when you shoot innocents or die, your partners can get quite cheesingly annoying. The difficulty of this game can be extremely difficult and cheap. You will find yourself many times knowing you shot the guy but instead he blows you away. Also what's up with the shoot the guy, freeze the screen for a second!! Anyone else notice this!? Every time almost when you shoot someone it does this. I don't recall CP doing this. Also the great thing about CP was if you died you usually got to continue at about half way when you got to that safe point. DW has seemed to take this feature out. This makes the gameplay get old because you have to keep going through the same stuff you have already dont. Overall it can be fun to go through the levels when you dont get stuck! OVERALL FINAL SCORE-5/10 I myself enjoyed this game, but was disappointed deeply when I saw how much it was slopped together. A very shoddy sequel when you consider how much better CP was. Still if you liked CP I would get it, for it is still fun, but you won't keep coming back and playing it like I do CP, because some of the gameplay can get old. FINAL WORD-A very disappointing sequel. |
