REVIEW

Introduction

Scramble Cobra is a helicopter game where you take control of an attack chopper in a fictional military against a fictional enemy. While it is a fun game, it is by no means a simulation like Flying nightmares or VR stalkers. This is an arcade shooter closer in design to the shockwave games. You don't increase or decrease in altitude, you don't land unless you run out of fuel, and for the most part, the controls are similiar to shockwave. You do have the option of straifing or "sliding" left and right or using that move in combination with forward, reverse, and left and right turning to avoid missles.

Gameplay:8/10
This game is very similiar to the shockwave games and if you liked them, you will probably like this game.
There are ten missions, which I think makes for a very short game, this is cd after all, and should have had at least 2 to 4 times the missions. I does have three difficulty settings; easy, normal and hard. I have only played the game on easy so far. On easy, the first five missions were a piece of cake, I blew through tem in about half an hour(I was getting worried that I would finish this game the first day I owned it). Then I got to mission 6 and the difficulty level jumped off the scale. i can't emagine what it's going to be like on the harder difficulty levels. You take out the usual suspects; tanks, jets, choppers, trucks, buildings, ships and installations like radar and others. You are equiped with guided missles that need a lock just like shockwave before your going to hit your target, machine guns and my favorite; napalm. You only get three napalms that cover only a limited area though, so use them wisely. You are given a refueling truck for each mission that you hover over to reload&refuel. You can not fix damage. You have a map/radar for enemies and another direction finder which leads you to your targets. another heads-up radar appears for missles if any are tracking you. Your objectives very from mission to mission but one thing remains the same, destroy stuff. Occasionally you will have a mission where you are protecting a convoy or your own cities and bases.

Graphics: 7/10

picture shockwave(1) graphics with lower-res texture maps and even more barren landscapes(if you can believe that). The framerate is smooth enough for it to be a non-factor, if it's not as smooth as shockwave it's real close. The FMV is pretty run of the mill, but the voice of your commander is not matched to his lips, it is waaay off. The missle's smoke looks good when you shoot them. other explosions are pretty good, but when buildings and stuff get destroyed it looks pretty lame.

music/sound: 6/10

The music and sound are good. nothing special.

Control: 8/10

It would have been nice if you could actually land and increase and decrease your altitude, but the eneny can't either. Everything else works well. Very similiar to shockwave.

Overall: 7/10

A good solid game if you like 3D shooters like shockwave. But I think it will be to short in the long run.

Conclusion:

It was worth the $13.50 I payed for it with shipping, a good addition to my library. It probably should have been longer and the graphics could have been better. There doesn't seem to be a good graduation of difficulty, it goes from easy to extremely hard in the blink of an eye. But I recommend it.
